Homes in Aalst and what that means for your job
Aalst has a compact city centre with terraced houses, but most homes are in the surrounding neighbourhoods and sub-municipalities: Erembodegem, Nieuwerkerken, Moorsel, Hofstade, Herdersem. There, post-war and 1970s-1980s estate houses dominate — semi-detached or detached, with a garden, garage and driveway.
In this generation of homes, the basic installations (electrics, gas central heating, plumbing) are reaching renovation age. What was new 30 to 40 years ago now needs replacing or upgrading to meet current standards and consumption levels.
Unlike Ghent, there is usually more space around the house in Aalst: flat roofs on garages and sheds, gardens that need maintenance, and outside walls that are fully visible and can be tackled without heritage rules.
